History of Eid al-Adha 2023

Eid al-Adha 2023

Eid al-Adha 2023 is celebrated to commemorate the sacrifice of Prophet Abraham who was willing to sacrifice his son, Prophet Ismail, for God. At that time, Prophet Ibrahim was being tested by God for his piety by ordering him to sacrifice his own biological child.

The implementation of Eid al-Adha itself in the Muslim tradition has been carried out since the 3rd year of Hijriyah, or 3 years after the Prophet Muhammad and his companions migrated to Medina.

The True Meaning of Eid al-Adha 2023

the Meaning of Eid al-Adha 2023

Eid al-Adha 2023 teaches us how we must fear God and surrender all our affairs to Him. In practicing piety, we will always be tested by various things and oftenly we have to give up the things we love.

If it is very difficult for us to offer up our possessions, then of course the quality of our piety is very far from the quality of the Prophet Abraham. With this Eid al-Adha 2023 celebration, we can train ourselves to sacrifice our four-legged cattle to be slaughtered and distributed to those who are entitled to receive them.

Wukuf Arafah and Eid al-Adha 2023

the relation between Wukuf Arafah and Eid al-Adha 2023

Eid al-Adha 2023 is determined from the implementation of the pilgrimage in Mecca. Because the pillar of the pilgrimage is wukuf, the implementation of wukuf in the Hajj pilgrimage also determines when Eid al-Adha can be held. So it’s no wonder that Eid al-Adha is also known as Hajj Day Festival.

Wukuf itself is held on the 9th of Dzulhijjah in the afternoon until 10 of Dzulhijjah in the morning. In 2023, wukuf itself falls on June 27, 2023. This is because the Saudi government stipulates that 1 Dzulhijjah falls on June 19, 2023. Thus, 10 Dzulhijjah falls on 28 June, 2023.
However, the fall of 1 Dzulhijjah is different in other regions. And thus, many countries outside Arab realms celebrated 10 Dzulhijjah a day after Saudi Arabia.
